MULDROW, Okla. (AP) -- Misdemeanor charges are expected this week against the owner of 31 elk found dead on a ranch in Sequoyah County.

Sequoyah County Prosecutors say John Mummy faces charges of operating the elk ranch near Muldrow without a breeder's license and for improper disposal of carcasses.

The elk are being tested for chronic wasting disease, which is similar to mad cow disease. But state officials say they don't expect to find chronic wasting in the dead animals.
