WASHINGTON (AP) _ L.S.K. Smoked Turkey Products, Inc., of Bronx, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling approximately 39,000 pounds of smoked turkey and pork products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.
The products include 30-pound bulk packages of turkey and pork products produced on April 4, 2005, and shipped to distribution centers in Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Florida for institutional use, as well as two-pound packages shipped to retail outlets in the same states.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease. Healthy people rarely contract listeriosis. However, Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea.
Consumers with questions about the recall may contact company spokesman Alan Comroe at (718) 792-1300.
Full details of the recalled products also are available on the agency's Internet site.
