OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Governor Brad Henry's education plan won approval Monday in a state House subcommittee.
The bill intends to increase student achievement and school accountability and provide pay raises for teachers and money for kindergarten and college scholarships. It includes increasing the requirements for math for high school students, creating math labs for students, provide math training to middle school teachers, creating new tests for middle and high school students and encourages high school seniors to take college prep courses.
It also increase teacher pay to the regional average during the next four years and provides funding for full-day kindergarten and a state-sponsored college scholarship program.
The bill has already passed the state Senate and now goes to the full House Appropriations Committee for consideration.
