A house fire in the 200 block of North Roosevelt in Sand Springs kills the home's resident.
Fire officials say 66-year old Ed Squire died in the blaze. The call came in shortly after 2 AM and when firefighters arrived, they found the front half of the house in flames. Emergency crews told the News on 6 that many older residents live in this part of town, so they immediately started a search and rescue effort. That's when they found Squire inside the home.
It took crews some time to put the flames out. The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire and the medical examiner will determine exactly how the victim died, but fire officials believe Squire's smoking may have played a role in the fire.
A pet dog belonging to the victim also died in the fire.
