OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ For the second year in a row, a Piedmont Middle School student will represent the state at a national spelling competition in Washington, D-C.
Thirteen-year-old Mallory Irwinsky of Oklahoma City won the 2005 Central Oklahoma Paideia Spelling Bee Finals yesterday. She'll get a second chance for a shot at the U-S title.
Irwinsky managed to win the competition for fifth through eighth graders in just 16 rounds. Last year's state finals went on for more 38 rounds.
This year's runner-up was Caitlin Cadieux of Oklahoma City, a student at Bishop John Carroll School.
More than nine-thousand spellers statewide participated in the competition this year.
