OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – State Senate Democrats asked Senate President Pro Tem Cal Hobson to resign his leadership post or face a formal move to replace him.
Capitol and Senate sources told The Associated Press Monday that members of the Democratic caucus voted overwhelmingly to give Hobson until later in the week to prepare to step aside as the Senate's top leader.
Hobson was the only senator speaking publicly about what happened in caucus.
He said there was a frank discussion about his problems with alcoholism and what should be done about it.
Hobson has previously acknowledged having a problem with alcohol abuse and was in treatment twice in 2003 and 2004.
