OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma House approves a bill to stiffen penalties for the owners of dogs that attack people.
The measure is a legislative response to recent high-profile dog attacks across the state but doesn't specifically ban any breed.
The bill requires that the owners of dangerous dogs have a $100,000 liability insurance policy.
It also raises the minimum fine an owner must pay for a dog attack to $5,000, the maximum fine under current law, and requires a minimum 10-day jail sentence.
The measure passed 89-to-1 and now goes to the state Senate for consideration.
