OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Florida officials say former Commerce Secretary and current Tulsa mayoral candidate Kathy Taylor and her husband owe more than $130,000 in back property taxes and fines.
The inspector general for the property appraiser's office in Broward County says the taxes are owed because the couple claimed homestead exemptions in both states.
Ron Cacciatore says the exemption can't be claimed in Florida if a property owner seeks the same exemption elsewhere.
The couple released a statement yesterday saying they haven't been notified of the tax problem.
Taylor is married to William Lobeck, the chairman and chief executive officer of Vanguard Car Rental Incorporated. The company operates the Alamo and National brands and moved its headquarters to Tulsa from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2004.
