OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state House committee approves a bill that would allow students to pray aloud in groups, distribute religious literature and express religious viewpoints to their classmates.
The House Common Education Committee voted 8 to 5 Wednesday to send the measure to the full House for a vote despite concerns expressed by Representative Ray Miller.
A former elementary school superintendent, Miller says the bill will expose public schools to lawsuits over how they administer religious expression.
The measure would authorize a wide variety of religious expression by students as long as they do not infringe upon the rights of other students.
