UNDATED (AP) -- Religious conservatives are speaking out against a movie that was produced by an Oklahoma City company because its lead actor has advocated for gay causes.
"End of the Spear" is a film that tells the true story of bush pilot Nate Saint, who was killed along with four other missionaries in Ecuador by tribesmen they were trying to evangelize.
The movie stars Chad Allen, whom protesters say is not only gay but has advocated same-sex marriages and adoptions and has starred in a stage play about a gay Jesus figure.
Movie director Jim Hanon confirmed that Every Tribe Entertainment -- a Christian-oriented company -- learned of the information about Allen a week after the commitment was made in 2004.
Hanon -- an evangelical Protestant -- says he disagrees Allen on homosexuality, and knew some in the audience would be sensitive to it, but they decided to proceed.
He says had the film's makers known about Allen's views beforehand, he probably wouldn't have been offered the role.
