Recent armed robberies in Tulsa make many people think about self-defense.

Steve Whitaker sees many victims come through his John 3:16 Mission. He teaches free self-defense classes every Tuesday. He says rule number one is to be aware. He also believes it's better to prevent being a victim, than to just survive an attack.

"People can no longer afford just to be oblivious. You have to put on a demeanor that says, ‘I'm ready to defend myself.’ And it's the way you look at people, the way you walk, being confident as you go, it's being aware of your surroundings."

You should also trust your gut instinct, if it tells you something is suspicious, avoid that area, or call police.
