Residents south of McAlester are still in shock following the death of a 5-year-old girl. Cameron Bobbitt, her mom, and two siblings were crossing the street in front of Frink-Chambers elementary school when a pick-up truck hit her.
Cameron was rushed to the hospital where she died of head injuries.
Even people who didn't know Cameron's family have made a small memorial to pay their respects. Thomas Kopidlansky: “my wife and I, we just felt compelled to come out here and lay some flowers down and just try to show a little bit of respect. We don't, we can't even imagine what it would be like to lose such a small child.â€
The man who hit Cameron is 76-year-old Max Kinyon. He says he was distracted by other children near the school.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating, but they do not believe speed was a factor in the accident.
The school canceled Friday classes.
