Finalists named for Miss America Quality of Life awards

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Miss Oklahoma Jennifer Berry is one of nine finalists for an award recognizing community service among the 52 contestants competing for the Miss America crown this week.

The Miss America Organization announced the nine finalists for its 2006 Quality of Life awards.

The Quality of Life winner receives a $3,000 scholarship. $2,000 goes to the runner-up, and the second runner-up gets a $1,000 scholarship.

The other finalists are: Miss Alabama, Miss Arizona, Miss Florida, Miss Idaho, Miss Kansas, Miss Minnesota, Miss New York, and Miss South Carolina.

The winner will be announced Thursday. Miss America 2006 will be crowned Saturday in a pageant hosted by the Aladdin Resort and Casino and aired live on Country Music Television.
