OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Rules that promote the purchase of power by electric utilities at the best possible price have been adopted by the Corporation Commission.

Chairman Jeff Cloud says the rules call for competitive bidding for power by regulated electric utilities in Oklahoma, as well as prudence reviews by the commission of power and fuel purchase costs.

Cloud says the rules also provide a process to provide input from the public and the commission as electric utilities plan to meet consumers' need for affordable and reliable power.

The rules ask utilities to find the best deal for customers and industrial consumers by using competitive markets. The new rules must be approved by the governor and the Legislature.
