MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A Muskogee County judge has ordered a 70-year-old Fort Gibson man to stand trial for the shooting to death his fiancee the day before their 1998 wedding.
Douglas Hayes is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jackie O'Dell in a case full of circumstantial evidence that lingered without charges for seven years.
Hayes was found liable for O'Dell's death following a civil trial. Special Judge Robin Adair ruled Thursday there is sufficient evidence to support a criminal charge. But Hayes' relatives disagreed
One family members says Hayes may not be able to get a fair trail in Muskogee County.
Investigators say O'Dell was found in her car in Fort Gibson after being shot twice in the head before gasoline was poured on her and she was set on fire.
