A soldier from Jenks is among the latest victims to die in Afghanistan.
US Army Reserves First Sergeant Toby Meister was part of the 486th Civil Affairs Battalion from Sand Springs. He was deployed to Afghanistan in June.
Meister was honored in 2002 as the Army Reserve ‘Drill Sergeant of the Year.’
His family and friends say he was proud to serve his country. Family pastor Eddie Stephens: "I always appreciated Toby's passion not only for his military career but his capacity to give everything he had to whatever he did."
Meister died while on a combat patrol, when a roadside bomb exploded next to his Humvee. He was married and had a one year old son.
Meister is the 40th Oklahoman to die in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
