OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a 200-thousand dollar grant to the Absentee-Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.
The tribe is the first in the region to receive an EPA Brownfields Job Training Grant. The grant will help train students in an eight-week Remediation Worker Certification course.
A brownfield is a property where expansion, redevelopment or reuse may be complicated by the presence of a hazardous substance or other pollutant.
The grant encourages federal agencies, communities, labor groups and job training organizations work together to foster employment through environmental training.
The agency has awarded $2-million in job training grants to 12 communities in eleven states.
