OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Authorities say an Ada teenager could face charges for allegedly participating in a drag race on I-40 that resulted in the death of his passenger.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 17-year-old Billy Long was racing his Ford Mustang against another Ford Mustang on Friday when he lost control of the car, crossed a center median and collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle.

The impact threw him and 17-year-old Quinton resident Tyler Ford out of the car. Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, while Long sustained broken bones, a collapsed lung and lacerations.

The driver of the SUV -- 35-year-old David Whiteman -- is in critical condition at a local hospital.

Patrol Lieutenant Pete Norwood says the accident was one of the worst wrecks he's ever seen.

He says prosecutors will determine if any charges will be filed.

The driver of the other Mustang left the scene.
