OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The first woman to rise to the rank of general in the Oklahoma Air National Guard received her second star Thursday.
Brigadier General Rita Aragon was promoted to the rank of major general during an Oklahoma Capitol ceremony.
Governor Brad Henry joined Aragon's commander, General William Looney, in pinning the two-star rank on her uniform.
Looney is a former resident of Oklahoma and commander of the Air Education and Training Command at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio.
She was named Looney's assistant in September.
Aragon is a retired teacher and school principal in Oklahoma City.
She enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard in 1979 as a draftsman apprentice. She received her commission in 1981.
Aragon became the Air National Guard's first female general in 2003.
