A second person has died as a result of wildfires that recently ravaged the state last month.

60-year-old Kenneth Ruth of Checotah passed away after a two-week battle with severe burns over nearly half his body. Emergency workers pulled Ruth from this home near Checotah November 27th.

Officials say he was reluctant to leave his cats as fire consumed the mobile home. Ruth died at a Tulsa hospital.

A 68-year-old Carter County woman died of complications from a lung disorder after she tried to keep grassfires from her home with a garden hose.
