CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) -- A 16-year-old Chickasha boy was placed in juvenile custody for biting off his mother's bottom lip, police said Friday.

Assistant police Chief Keith Springstead said the boy was fighting with his 21-year-old brother about 11:45 PM Thursday when Karry French intervened to break up the dispute between her sons and the younger son somehow bit off her lip.

"The older brother wanted the younger brother to get out of a car and come inside the house," Springstead said.

The names of the two have not been released.

French was hospitalized in good condition Friday in Oklahoma City. Doctors said the lip was too damaged to be reattached.

The boy was being held by juvenile authorities and the district attorney will decide what, if any, charges will be filed.
