OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Dobson Communications Corp., which sells wireless service to more than 1.5 million subscribers in rural and suburban areas, said Friday it has agreed to buy the Cellular One brand from telecommunications company Alltel Corp. for $1.3 million.
Separately, Alltel said it has agreed to sell a rural service area (RSA) market in southwest Arkansas for an undisclosed sum to Cingular Wireless, the joint venture of AT&T Inc. and BellSouth Corp.
Alltel said it expects the Dobson sale to close by year-end, and the Cingular transaction to close in next year's first quarter. The agreements will complete divestiture requirements related to Alltel's acquisition of Western Wireless Corp.
