CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) _ A Chickasha man who was fatally shot by law officers had some traffic tickets and faced a couple of misdemeanor counts.
Authorities say Jerry Dwain Jeffries took off when game warden Gene Pester tried to pull him over on a traffic stop Thursday near Amber on Oklahoma Highway 92.
They say the 54-year-old led Pester on a pursuit and an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper joined the chase as it reached speeds of 100 miles per hour near Tabler along U-S Highway 62.
Officials say the trooper forced Jeffries' pickup truck off the road, but the vehicle didn't stop and collided with Pester's vehicle after the game warden caught up.
O-H-P spokeswoman Kera Phillipi says after Pester and the trooper left their vehicles, Jeffries tried to hit Pester and the officers fired.
Records show Jeffries previously was ticketed for speeding and convicted of running a police roadblock. He was set to appear in Comanche County District Court on January 4th on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting arrest in Medicine Park.
Jeffries was shot once and died of a gunshot wound to the face.
It hasn't been determined which officer's bullet killed him.
