Donations are down this holiday season, especially when it comes to Thanksgiving turkeys.

Charities across the country aren't meeting their goals, some by more than 50 percent. Turkeys at Tulsa's John 3:16 Mission are also in short supply and there's not much time left to give.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood says the mission ran out of turkeys twice in the past two days. They were back up and running Tuesday afternoon, but need more turkeys to continue their work Wednesday.

They still expect more than 2,500 families to stop by for turkey and the fixings. That means they need a couple thousand turkeys and the canned goods to go along with them.

The mission's Steven Whitaker says the John 3:16 isn't seeing the same help they have in the past. "Turkeys haven't come in individually. Families just bring a turkey and say, hey we bought our turkey and here's one for you. That hasn't happened as much this year.”

If you'd like to help, there are three places to drop off turkeys. You can bring them to John 3:16 Family Center at 2027 North Cincinnati or Under The Sun Garden Center at 91st and Sheridan during business hours.

Or you can bring a turkey or cash donations anytime day or night to the John 3:16 shelter at 506 North Cheyenne.
