ENID, Okla. (AP) -- A group of landlords in Enid want to make it a crime for renters to destroy property and fail to pay for the damage.

The Enid Landlords Association says they often are victimized by renters who vandalize the homes by tearing up carpet and floors, and damaging doors and walls. Members of the group says renters are often evicted for nonpayment of rent, and the deposit doesn't cover the cost of repairs.

The association is now asking local lawmakers to help pass a law to make those actions a criminal offense.
