An Oklahoma war hero was honored Friday afternoon in Broken Arrow.

US Marine Corporal Bryan Johnson was shot in the head while on a rescue mission in Iraq.

Friday afternoon, his mother pinned him with the Purple Heart, and memories of the phone call she got from a military hospital in Germany flooded back. Ruth Gray: “He said I have Bryan sitting here right beside me, and he's going to talk to you, but his jaw is wired shut and he's not going to sound right."

Cpl. Bryan Johnson: "At the time, I was still mad because I didn't want to be pulled away from my Marines and I didn't want to leave Iraq, cause those are my Marines there and I want to be with them, and I still wanted to do my job.”

Johnson is still deciding if he'll sign up for another tour of duty.
