Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn says Samuel Alito deserves a fair hearing and a straight up-or-down vote on his US Supreme Court nomination.

Coburn says the US Senate has a duty to approve judges who will reflect the Constitution.

â€œDoesnâ€™t matter what president is nominating, nominee is going to be the person deciding the law. The law needs to be based on what the law is, based on the constitution and treaty's, not what someone's individual philosophy is."

Coburn says he looks forward to meeting Alito when he makes his rounds through the Capitol.
