NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Norman Police Department officials say individuals who own a counterfeit Texas driver's license have about two-and-a-half weeks to turn it in without penalty.

NPD Detective Chris Amason says the department started the amnesty period Monday and will end it at 5 PM on November 18th.

Amason says officials discovered the fake licenses after carding an underage drinker at a local Norman bar.

Further investigation led authorities to a University of Oklahoma student who was e-mailing digital photos and signatures to a manufacturer in Texas.

The manufacturer would produce and mail the licenses back to the student, who would then sell them to OU students.

Amason says officials believe there are at least 200 of the fake IDs still floating around Norman. The police department has not yet pressed charges.
