OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma Democrats say they're pinning hopes for political success on Democratic Governor Brad Henry's popularity.
Democrats say Henry and growing disenchantment with the nation's Republican leadership could combine to create a "perfect storm" to sweep more Democrats into legislative offices.
Democrats control the state Senate but lost majority status in the House last year for the first time in 80 years. Republicans have vowed to maintain control of the House and take over the Senate in 2006.
Henry, who has had high approval ratings in public opinion polls, plans to seek a second term. Representative Ryan McMullen of Burns Flat says Democratic candidates hope to win new seats by riding on Henry's coattails and appealing to voters who are disillusioned by national GOP leaders.
