OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) State Senator Scott Pruitt is the latest candidate to jump into the lieutenant governor's race.
Calling himself a ``true conservative,'' Pruitt announced his campaign yesterday in front of a statute of baseball great Mickey Mantle outside Oklahoma's City's SBC Bricktown Ballpark. Similar announcements were made in Tulsa and Lawton.
The Broken Arrow Republican joins House Speaker Todd Hiett in the race for the Republican nomination. House Minority Leader Jari Askins is seeking the Democratic nod.
They want to succeed Republican Mary Fallin, who is running for Congress.
Pruitt is the general managing partner of the Triple-A Oklahoma RedHawks. Pruitt says that as lieutenant governor, he will fight for smaller government and use the office to promote conservative and family values.
