An Oklahoma congressman is filing a bill to crack down on illegal immigrants.

Representative John Sullivan says he's shocked by the ease that illegal aliens can permanently settle in the United States. Sullivan visited border areas in Arizona earlier this month.

Sullivan's bill -- filed yesterday -- would reduce the number of illegal aliens who overstay their visa and ensure that illegal aliens are apprehended, detained, and removed as rapidly as possible.

The bill clarifies the authority of state and local police to enforce immigration laws. It also requires federal authorities to respond to state and local police either by taking custody of illegal aliens or reimbursing their detention costs.
