LA BELLE, Fla. (AP) The pilot of a single-engine airplane dies after crashing on takeoff northwest of Miami, Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the four-seat Cessna 172 crashed at about 1:40 yesterday afternoon at the airport in La Belle.

The name of the pilot, the only person on board, hasn't been released.

Federal air records show the plane is registered to Christiansen Aviation in Wilmington, Delaware.

Owner William Christiansen said the company is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and he leased the plane to a flight school.

He said he had not been contacted by Aviator flight school about the crash.

The FAA was investigating the cause of the crash.
