Jon Wilson and his fiance' Ashlee Holder unpack the few belongings they managed to salvage from their apartment in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.
Everything they own now barely covers the floor of one room and their newly leased home in Tulsa, is pretty sparse, with only a couple of donated couches. They evacuated one day before the hurricane hit.
Jon Wilson: "It was really hard to deal with. Before we left, we talked about the fact we'd probably lost everything but until you see it, you can't know. It's amazing."
This home video shows what it was like when they went back to their apartment a few weeks ago. Wind had blown off the roof, so rain and mold destroyed most everything. Looters took much of the rest and it was terrible sight.
Jon Wilson: "The smell was so bad, of course we had a face mask on, but, after 10 minutes, you got light headed and dizzy, it was horrible."
Ashlee grew up in Oolagah, so the couple re-located to Tulsa and Jon got a job at the Tulsa police department's forensic lab, in the DNA section. His help is much needed because there is currently only one person working DNA. For Jon, it's a great opportunity to start a new life.
Even after all this couple has been through, they're glad it's not worse. They're thankful they weren't sent to a shelter or the Astrodome and that they now have a place to call home.
Jon Wilson: "It was a great place to live, but, now, thinking about getting married, maybe starting a family, we can't think of a great place to live than Tulsa and we're excited to call it our home."
These two feel confident that they tell this story of sadness to their children someday, that it will end with this thought, they all lived happily after.
