In 2007, Oklahoma celebrates its 100th birthday and Tulsa is already planning the party. The Oklahoma CentennialTulsa committee announced plans Wednesday for a week long celebration in November 2006.
The events will include a combination of education and entertainment. The Oklahoma CentennialTulsa committee will set up their office in the Tulsa Historical Society building.
Sharon King Davis: "We will have phone numbers, actively started for statehood day November 16th."
The committee also unveiled a replica of the Oklahoma Centennialspirit pole Wednesday, a 20 foot art piece that will adorn sidewalks and business all around Tulsa. The first spirit pole was given as a gift from Tulsa to Oklahoma City in response to Oklahoma City's gift to Tulsa of a centennial clock.
The spirit pole symbolizes colorful Native American heritage and the spirit of achievement and optimism.
