OKLAHOMA City (AP) _ Health officials are urging Oklahomans to get their cholesterol levels checked after one in three state adults reported having high cholesterol.
State Health Department official Adeline Yerkes says Oklahomans age 20 and older should have their cholesterol levels checked at least once every five years.
There are no signs or symptoms of high blood cholesterol.
People with high cholesterol have a greater risk of heart disease or stroke. The two are the leading causes of death in the state.
Officials recommend that Oklahomans reduce the amount of saturated fat in their diets, eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables daily, and get 30 to 45 minutes of daily physical activity.
