EVERETT, Wash. (AP) _ Boeing machinists are voting today whether to accept a new contract aimed at ending a nearly month-old strike.
Approval could mean a quick resumption of commercial jet aircraft production and would be good news for workers at Spirit Aerosystems plants in Oklahoma and Kansas.
Spirit was formed by Onex Corporation after Onex bought Boeing plants in Tulsa, McAlester and Wichita, Kansas. Boeing is Spirit's only customer and the company had reduced workers to three day work weeks during the strike.
Spirit has said if the contract is approved, it will go to a four day work week next week and back to a five day week the next week.
Union leaders are recommending the Boeing workers accept the contract.
