MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- Opening statements are expected today in the murder trial of a man accused of killing a state trooper during a drug raid.
Kenneth Barrett is charged in federal court with killing Trooper Rocky Eales in September 1999 as officers raided Barrett's home near Sallisaw. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Barrett was charged by the state with first-degree murder and prosecutors sought the death penalty in that case. But the jury convicted him of manslaughter and assault and battery with a deadly weapon and he's serving 30-years in prison.
