TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A father and son were convicted Monday in the bank robbery and fatal shooting of a security guard in Tulsa last year.
44-year-old Wade Lay and his son, 20-year-old Christopher Lay, were charged with first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in connection with the May 24th, 2004, robbery and shooting.
Jurors began the sentencing phase of the trial Monday afternoon. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. That portion of the trial continues Tuesday.
Both men admitted to the robbery. They said they wanted to use the money to retaliate against the government for the 1993 deaths at the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas.
Security guard Kenny Anderson died in a shootout with the suspects. Anderson returned fire, striking both men.
