State officials are investigating the possible disappearance of thousands of weapons from a Claremore gun museum.
Claremore Police seized records from the JM Davis museum after the discovery of one of its machine guns at a crime scene in Maine and another weapon in Muskogee. That combined with a recent burglary and the museum's inability to account for all of its 20,000 guns on display has officials concerned.
Claremore Police Chief Mickey Perry: "We just want to make sure the guns are there and that they're not hitting the streets. And I don't think they're hitting the streets in any mass quantity by any means, but we just want accountability."
The museum is run by state employees. State investigators have said as many as 6,000 guns may be unaccounted for, but only two disappearances are confirmed.
The museum director says he's confident that none are missing.
