Material Girls Quilting Emporium in Tulsa has made a national magazine's top 10 list. Many of America's 21-million quilters are reading about it in the latest edition of Quilt Sampler magazine, out Tuesday.

News on 6 reporter Rick Wells explains what the shop's new celebrity status might mean.

The ladies in the Material Girls Quilters Emporium have become overnight celebrities. They are signing copies of the latest issue of Quilt Sampler Magazine.

The Brookside shop is featured in the magazine's top ten list of quilt shops in America. Kelly Spann: “I wanted to be somewhat of a destination for quilters." She's probably accomplished that. Kelly Spann opened Material Girls at 4734 South Peoria, 2 and a half years ago with the idea of serving a younger clientele than the traditional quilting shop. "I'm not just for quilters. I'm for people who want to work with fabrics and do stuff in their homes."

It's the quilt they had to design and complete as part of the selection process to get on the top ten list. “It's called Solar Eclipse; it's more along the line of an art quilt than a traditional bed quilt." And the pattern needed to duplicate it is included in the magazine and the store has a few "kits" left which include all the material you'd need to finish the job.

"People will plan their vacations around this magazine." Trying to visit as many of the featured shops as possible.

This new national recognition could bring in customers and visitors who will come to Tulsa just to visit Material Girls. And like some ladies from Fayetteville, Arkansas, they'll all probably want a magazine and some autographs. Better restock the magazine rack.

The shop offers a complete line of quilting classes and they are collecting quilting supplies for Hurricane Katrina victims. For more information on all of that check out their web site.
