OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Law enforcement officers shot and killed a man early Monday after leading police on a car chase from Moore to Oklahoma City, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said.

Dustin Joe Melvin, 21, of Moore, was shot after pointing a pistol at a trooper, according to trooper Kera Philippi, a patrol spokeswoman.

The trooper and the two officers who shot Melvin were placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Their names will not be released until the investigation is complete.

The chase began about 1:20 a.m. when Moore police attempted to pull over a car for a minor traffic violation and the driver refused to stop. The chase moved into south Oklahoma City.

``An OHP trooper who was on his way home had heard the pursuit. He followed it on his radio, and put out stop sticks at an intersection,'' Philippi said.

The car slowed, but did not stop as it approached the intersection, she said.

``The trooper got out of his car, as did the two Moore police officers. The suspect then points a handgun at the trooper and he and Moore police officers began to fire,'' Philippi said.

``OHP and Moore police are working together on the investigation, we don't know whether it was Moore or whether it was OHP that fired the fatal shot,'' she said.
