OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ An Oklahoma County jury convicts a woman of first-degree murder in the death of a 1-year-old boy.
The panel recommended life without the possibility of parole for Beverly Michelle Moore, who showed no emotion when the verdict was read yesterday.
The 31-year-old Moore was accused of shaking Avery Snyder so violently that one of his retinas detached and he suffered brain damage that led to his death in January 2004.
Medical evidence given during the trial suggested Avery was shaken and his head struck a hard surface.
Police say Moore told them in a videotaped interview that the child wouldn't stop crying so she grabbed his shoulders and shook him up and down, repeatedly hitting his head against the floor.
Prosecutors told the jury that Moore's story to police is identical to the scenario doctors described as the likely cause of Avery's death.
Moore testified during the trial that she believes the father, Todd Snyder, was responsible for the death. Todd Snyder testified that his decision to let Moore care for his son haunts him.
