Gas prices, demand decline in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma gasoline prices have dropped as much as 40 cents a gallon over the past ten days and are falling as fast as they rose after Hurricane Katrina disrupted crude oil supplies.

Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma, says the rapid run-up in prices forced many Oklahomans to alter their lifestyles and even postpone or cancel weekend getaways to save money.

The price of a gallon of gasoline in Tulsa has fallen from a high of $3.18 on September 2nd to $2.76 Monday. That's a drop of 42 cents.

In Oklahoma City, prices hit a high of $3.04 on September 2nd and stood at about $2.70 a gallon Monday.

Mai says gas prices will level off at between $2.30 and $2.50 a gallon thru the rest of the year.
