One Tulsa Public School began the school year on Monday headed down the "Road to Excellence." That's Sequoyah Elementary School's theme for the year.

It is based around the historic Route 66 and is in conjunction with the Oklahoma Centennial.

Teacher Stacey Eby: "We're using all the modes of transportation that have been on the road since Oklahoma became a state. So we have horses, and we have an old car and we have a surrey out here so the kids can see all the different modes of transportation that we've used."

There was also a teepee on campus to celebrate the state's Native American roots.
