OKMULGEE, Okla. (AP) _ An Okmulgee man was killed early Sunday morning after his truck slammed into a tree, splitting the truck in half and ejecting the driver more than 50 feet.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 54-year-old Joe Wayne Ewing was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The patrol says Ewing was westbound on 251st Street at a high rate of speed when he ran off the road and struck the tree, splitting his pickup in half.
