7,000 abandoned oil wells have been cleaned up in the Sooner State.
Tuesday, the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board celebrated the milestone. The latest site to be restored to its natural environment is near Lake Oologah, which serves as the city of Tulsa's water supply.
The OERB, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency have been working together for the past 13 years to restore hundreds of abandoned well sites.
