BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (AP) -- A city ordinance designed to allow some controlled fireworks fun seemed to do its job on the 4th of July
But the city's police chief says he still wants voters to have a say on what should happen next year.
The 2004 ordinance allows residents to purchase permits for shooting off fireworks during certain hours on July 3rd and 4th. The city amended it in 2005 and recently the police department asked for comments on the law's effectiveness.
Broken Arrow Police say that since lifting the blanket ban on fireworks, the number of complaint leading up to the two permitted days dropped 53 percent. Complaints after 11 PM in 2006 dropped 67 percent from the levels in 2004.
