OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) _ A horse owned by an Oklahoma oilman runs third behind Bluegrass Cat in the $1-million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.
Strong Contender, owned by John Oxley of Tulsa, was the second favorite in the Grade One race Sunday behind Bluegrass Cat, a horse that finished second in both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
Bluegrass Cat won by seven lengths over Praying for Cash, the largest winning margin in the 39 runnings of the race. Nine horses ran in the race.
Strong Contender had entered the race off a win in the Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park in New York.
