PRYOR, Okla. (AP) -- In what authorities are calling a case of "road rage at its extreme" a truck driver is accused of slashing the face of another trucker with knife in Oklahoma.
Mayes County, Oklahoma, prosecutors are charging William Lee Thomas of Red Oak, Texas, with assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the attack on Lee Petrescu of Pryor, Oklahoma.
Sheriff's Lieutenant Charles Smallwood says Thomas got mad at Petrescu while the two were talking on a citizens band radio Saturday afternoon about tailgating. Smallwood says the two stopped their trucks on US 69 between Adair and Pryor and Thomas slashed Petrescu from his left ear down to his chin with a large lock-blade knife.
An Adair police officer eventually helped Petrescu and he was taken to a Tulsa hospital.
Authorities say Thomas drove away but realized after a few minutes that he let his anger get the best of him and turned himself in at the Pryor Police Department.
