WANETTE, Okla. (AP) -- A state audit reveals the overpayment of three Wanette school district officials by $14,000 and other financials woes.
Pottawatomie County District Attorney Richard Smothermon requested the audit of the Wanette School District from State Auditor Jeff McMahan and will determine whether to file criminal charges.
According to the audit, overpayments were made to the elementary school principal for $8,410; to the superintendent for $3,500 and to the high school principal for $2,410.
McMahan says the school board also was led by the superintendent to believe that the district's financial situation was in good condition.
According to the report, appropriations had actually been exceeded by $5,700.
